Art for the every day.

I’m Sophie, the maker behind Wild Sol Pottery. Thanks for taking the time to visit my website!

I live in Asheville, NC at the foot of the mystical Appalachian mountains. When I’m not helping run my family’s local business, I am in the studio working on my next small batch of pots!

During the height of the pandemic and in need of a creative outlet, I took a pottery class at a local studio and have since fallen in love with working with clay. Creating has always been a form of therapy for me, and after exploring many different mediums, working with clay just feels right. It challenges me while being deeply fulfilling.

I am a strong believer that surrounding yourself with beautiful things you love makes for a happier life. I take inspiration in creating my pots from some of my favorite things in nature - a beautiful sunset, these ancient mountains I’ve been lucky to call home my whole life, the moon, or a little chickadee at my bird feeder. A lover of global decor & textiles, I am equally as inspired by patterns and colors used in art around the world.

I make functional and fun pieces for the home that bring comfort & enrich daily rituals like enjoying a cup of coffee or gathering for meals with loved ones.

I use a combination of wheel thrown and hand built techniques, and often use wax resist to create designs that showcase the texture of the raw clay. I work with an iron bearing stoneware clay, high fired at cone 10 in a gas kiln reduction environment. Hand made every step of the way, each of my pots is uniquely it’s own.

My love for creating, travel, family & good food lends itself perfectly to this passion. I am excited to continue learning and exploring different styles & techniques. Thank you for being here and for following along on my journey!
